What If It Causes Impotence?

HONG KONG — Coronavirus patients discharged from hospital could still carry the virus deep in their lungs, undetected by conventional testing methods, a Chinese study has found. The discovery, published in a paper in peer-reviewed journal Cell Research on Tuesday, could explain why a growing number of recovered patients had tested positive again.

"Our work provided the first pathological evidence for residual virus in the lung for a patient [who tested negative] three consecutive times," wrote the researchers, led by Dr Bian Xiuwu of the Army Medical University in Chongqing, southwest China.

That is the thing about viruses. The herpes simplex virus causes cold sores. It lurks inactive under the skin until your immunity dips low. The varicella zoster virus is the one that causes chicken pox. You can get well from chicken pox but break out in shingles everytime your immunity dips low.

What if this virus does the same? Once you get it, you can never be rid of it. It lurks within the body only to flare up when your immunity dips low?

There is much we do not know about this virus. So, what if?

Then, The Husband commented that things could be worse. It could exterminate the human race if it operated like the wolbachia bacteria on male Aedes mosquitoes. Humans would not be able to reproduce.

Then a thought occurred to me. I have finally figured out how to motivate stubborn men to wear their masks properly and maintain proper social distancing. We should simply tell them that a permanent effect of Covid19 is male impotence.

Now, imagine if that were true.

All men would go out of the house in full PPE. Not a single military man (present or past) will act tough anymore. My favourite hawkers will probably figure out a way to air-condition their PPE. Stubborn women will feel the pressure because men will yell at them if they don't comply with social distancing measures.
