Rosemary Frenzy

Milo is an old hand at plant murder. He knows to chew at the base of the stem just above the root ball. Once the deed is done, he is wont to look contrite but it's all an insincere act. Don't you believe it. He means not one look of it because he does it again and again. This time, it was a 4-year old rosemary and I was devastated. It is times like these when one wonders what dog meat tastes like in a Provençal herb stew.

To comfort myself, I bought 3 pots of rosemary from Cold Storage at Guthrie House. Aren't they beautiful? And here is my equally fragrant hyssop. It tastes great on chicken. I don't yet have enough leaves to make a hyssop roast chicken but soon...

And here is my rocket salad. After months of waiting, it looks finally ready for harvest. Yum! Yum!

And won't you please look at the lemon thyme? After months of languishing, it has exploded into a mass of fragrant green leaves. I am so pleased!!

Teach Milo how to chew the top bits off, like the way we give our plants a trim so they'll get bushier. He can be your new gardener.

Hah? How to teach that? Like my kids, he has a mind of his own... I can't even catch him to bring him upstairs. *Tear hair out*.

Oh yes! They're pretty alright!! All the pots there were VERY pretty and went for $4 plus. For the quality of the plant, it was a steal!!

Fresh? That's because they're new from Cold Storage. I really like Cold Storage for herbs. Very good quality plants.

You can buy rooted pots of rosemary and thyme from Cold Storage (presuming you live in Singapore). Repot them quickly in 50% perlite and 50% TREF compost.

Rocket leaves: Use the same 50:50 mix and sow seeds. These can be bought from Far East Flora.

Keep them in a well-ventilated (windy) spot with at least 4 hours of direct sunlight (8 of possible) and don't water if it rains. If there is no rain at all for 2 to 3 days, water once very thoroughly (till water drips from holes at the bottom).

Feed with Phostrogen from Far East Flora. Follow instructions on box.

Of course, if you live outside of Singapore then I can't help much because the weather and the shops are different.
